Halloween

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mikki at 9:32 am on Thursday, November 4, 2010

Hi Guys,

As you might know it was Halloween on Sunday and I’m sure a lot of you went trick or treating. I went to a lot of places and most of them were dressed up for Halloween with wool as cobwebs and glow in the dark skeletons. I didn’t do anything for Halloween. Did you?

As Halloween is a big event I decided to do some research.

Halloween is celebrated on the 31st of October.

Halloween means the words All-Hallows-Day

Halloween started 2,000 years ago by the Celts.

Halloween is mostly celebrated in Ireland, America, Canada, the U.S and France.

Trick of treating is an activity for kids to go around and get treats from the neighbourhood.

I hope that you now know a little about Halloween now.

See you later,

Inanimate Alice!!!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mikki at 1:36 pm on Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Hi Everyone,

This term we have been learning about Inanimate Alice.

Inanimate Alice is a series of episodes about a girl named Alice. What I have noticed aboutall three episodes is that the episode always starts with ” My name is Alice and I am…”. In each episode she is a different age. In the first episode she was 8, in the second she was 10 and in the third she was 13. She is also in a different country each time. In the first she was in China, in the second she was in Italy and in the third she was in Russia. There is also a game in each one and her made up character Brad gets better drawn as she gets older.

I think that in the fourth episode she will be 17.
Here you can watch the episodes

When we watched the first episode we had to discuss with our group and come up with some questions. When we watched the other episodes we had to do a work sheet. We are now working on a diary entry for Alice. We have to answer some guiding questions. We have also been thinking about where she will go next. I think she will go to Canada.

Where do you think she will go?

I have enjoyed Inanimate Alice because the people who make it make you feel like you are a apartof it. It is also very enjoyable and I have learned a lot about questions by watching the episodes.

Fair Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mikki at 3:06 pm on Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Hi everyone,

Last Friday we had fair day.

Fair day is where the whole school has a mini fair. All the classes choose what they wanted at their stall. We had mocktails and nail painting. There were things like wizz fizz, toffee apples, white elefant, ice creams, coin drop, spiders, popcorn and cup cakes. I think everyone had  a lot of fun nd we raised a lot of money for the animal welfare and new sports gear for the hall.

The New House

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mikki at 11:30 am on Monday, September 6, 2010

Hi everyone,

As I told you in my last post I am moving house. We are enjoying it and we have got chickens. They are Bob, Bob, Bob and Steve. The first egg that we got we dropped and the second egg was 1.1 centremitres long and 1.2 centremitres wide.   We are also selling Daffodils.  We live right next to a deli so we dont have to go all the way down to the shops. We also live near Hahndorf so every weekend we go down there to go to the lolly shop.  I will tell you more as we get used to it.

Bye for now,

Moving House

Hi everyone,
In four weeks I will be moving house to Verdun. I can’t wait because we will have chickens and be able to grow our own vegetables. It is a stone cottage that was built by the people who we are buying it from. Hopefully we will have fun and be able to learn new things like chopping wood and growing vegetables. I will tell you more when we move in. We will be able to do more things like having fires and being able to walk to the other school.

See you later,

URRBRAE EXCURSION

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mikki at 7:16 pm on Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Hi everyone,

On the 31st of May two of our Biodiversity groups went to Urrbrae ( The Leaf Litter group and the Wetlands group).  Biodiversity is our I.B inquiry so that is why we went.

We were taken on a bus and when we arrived we met Mr Coles. He taught us how to use a microscope. he showed us some critters under the microscope. We then went outside and showed us how to catch bugs with a net. He then showed us how to put the bugs into the tray and then look at them.We divided into two groups and went off. I went with Mr Coles and we did a worksheet as we walked around the wetlands. We had to draw a damaged Wattle leaf and  damaged Gun tree leaf. We only had a little bit of time so we had  to be quick. we finished up by looking at some holes in the ground made by moths last year.

We walked back and had some lunch. We sat on the board walk and talked until it was time for the last activity. we made our way over to the nets and the trays. We buddied up and found our own spot. We found some bugs quickly and used the poppet to get the bugs out of the tray. We found a microscope and had a look at our bugs.We had to be quick because it was nearly time to leave. When it was time to leave we packed up and played a quick game before we had to go. At 2:30 pm we were hopping on the bus and heading back to school.

I had a great day and I learned that insects are vry important to us. Without them we would not exist.

See you later,

Mikki

Our Trip To The Museum, Art Gallery And The Botanic Gardens

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mikki at 12:39 am on Friday, May 21, 2010

On the 7th of May the two year  6 /7 classes and the 5/6 class enjoyed our trip to the city. We went to learn more about biodiversity as our IB inquary.

On Friday we all met at the Blackwood train station at 8:45 am. We waited around until the train came and when it came we all rushed to get 0n. When we finally got to the city we walked  up the hill. We then split up into our classes. My class walked up to the Art Gallery. Before we entered the Art Gallery we had a little snack. When we entered we split up into two little groups. I went with a lady called Anne. The first painting she showed us was and Aborigional dot painting anout Honey Ants. Most of the paintings were about DREAMING. Some of the painitngs were on bark. We had a lot of fun and saw some interesting paintings. After we had a look around Pam told us to go and have a snack while we were waiting. When it was time to go we walked up to the Museum.

When we got to the Museum we were told to put ur bags in a  big box. We waited with the mammals untill our tour guide Chris came. He took uis through to some of the animal exhibits and talked to us about a couple of aniamls. He then gave us some activities to do with our group. My group were finding information on ants. I learnt that ants always work as a team. We shared our work when we had finished and had a look around. We went to get our bags and head over to the Botanical Gardens.

In the Botanical Gardens we walked untill we found a Water Lilly Pond. We all got to rest our legs and have a look at the beautiful Lillies. We then walked on and found a nice grassy area where we could sit and have something to eat. After the snack we played around for a bit and then started the long walk to the Festival Theatre.

Everyone was tired as we made our way to the Festival Theatre. We finally got there and we met the two other classes. We ate our lunch and played around for a bit. When it was time to go we walked back to the train station and went back on the train.

We arrived at the Blackwood Station and walked down to Apex Park. We waited untill everyone ahd been picked up. When everyone was gone Pam took me and a couple people back to school. I was then picked up and taken home. We had a lot of fun and it was a great trip.
